The Old 97’s stopped by the WYEP Studios to play Live & Direct on May 9, 2017 ahead of their show that night at Mr. Smalls. The band played some tracks from their new album Graveyard Whistling and answered some questions from Rosemary Welch.
The group spoke about becoming better musicians over the course of their career, apocryphal tales of Frank Sinatra’s touring years, how to write songs as a narrator vs. a creator, and the tricky challenge of writing about religion.
