Pittsburgh Artist of the Week: Cameron Warren ‘OUT OF OUR CONTROL’

“I always have melodies in my head. There’s melodies in every single thing to me. I can just look up and see a city skyline and the buildings and I can say there’s a melody for how that looks or how that feels.”

That never-ending stream of musical clairvoyance just comes with being Cameron Warren. A formally trained and well-practiced musician, Warren was looking for a way to combine all of his musical interests – from playing multiple instruments to working behind the board – into one cohesive project when he decided to make an album.

CROSSROADS is a metaphor for all of his intersecting interests, but it’s also quite literal.

“I drive a lot,” he explains. “Driving just fuels me. I used to have a motorcycle and that fueled me even more so. Being on the road in that type of atmosphere is how I felt about this album.”

The album deftly steers through genres and emotions, showcasing his vast musical vocabulary. While it’s true that for many artists, a debut album pulls from a lifetime of experiences, Warren wrote the songs on CROSSROADS about his life this past year, starting with the optimistic sendoff for the disorderly nature of our world.

“Everyday things are out of our control, but we have to just continue to move forward and see the good in the day,” he says. “There’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Just stay positive with everything that you’re doing. Love in all types of ways – love for music, love for live, the love for just being yourself.”
