FAQ: What an end to federal funding for public radio would mean for WYEP

What’s Spinning week of May 12 — Natalie Bergman, John Butler & The Beths

Take a road trip with Natalie Bergman’s soulful “Gunslinger,” check out the groovy summer song “Trippin On You” by John Butler, and jam out to The Beth’s new indie rock tune, “Metal” — here’s what new on WYEP this week.

Natalie Bergman, “Gunslinger”

The first few notes from this “Gunslinger” feel like road trip across a desert with elements of soul, country, and Natalie Bergman's familiar — yet unique — voice. The black and white video set the stage for this musical adventure pondering unrequited love. “My Home Is Not in This World” is due out later this year as her sophomore solo effort after three releases in the duo, Wild Belle.

John Butler, “Trippin On You”

American-Australian singer-songwriter John Butler is back with a different vibe and sound. “Trippin On You” is one of the first summer songs that begs the windows to be down while getting lost in the groove. It's a different sound from his blues-tinged jam rock of the past, as Butler has reinvented himself with the upcoming new release set for later this summer.

The Beths, “Metal”

New Zealand indie rockers The Beths are back with their first new material in three years. “Metal” is a well-crafted indie rock track that was "born out of a time of rigorous touring, mental health struggles, and several diagnoses" for Elizabeth Stokes, the band's lead singer and songwriter.

“In some ways, ‘Metal’ is a song about being alive and existing in a human body,” she explains. “That is something I have been acutely aware of in the last few years, where I have been on what one might call a ‘health journey.’"
