Pittsburgh Artist of the Week: ORANGE MUSIC

Our Pittsburgh Artists of the Week are ORANGE MUSIC. Fronted by Isaiah Small, ORANGE MUSIC blend colorful tones and sounds to something unique and, well, orange. Their new song "Cosmic Queen" is an other-worldly love song.

ORANGE MUSIC are:
Isaiah Ross (Guitar) -Rowdy (Guitar)
Spencer McNeill (Sax)
Marvin Irish (Drums)
Daniel Rouse (Bass)
Isaiah Small (Keys/Vox)

What’s your musical history up to this point?

ORANGE MUSIC is a six-piece band of ALL STARS from Pittsburgh. My bandmates and I have been consistently pushing our music in this city for years.

How do you describe your sound?

ORANGE MUSIC is a blend of colorful tones and sounds. Some people make light music, some people make dark music. Ours is ORANGE.

Tell us more about the song "Cosmic Queen." What inspired you to write it and what does it mean to you?

"Cosmic Queen" was inspired by the image of an alien tattoo. The verses are dedicated to my significant partner.

What was the first album that really changed your life?

The first album that changed my mind was ATLiens by OUTKAST (extreme extraterrestrial vibes!)

Who are some other Pittsburgh artists you think more people should listen to?

Another Pittsburgh artist that people should listen to is Jack Swing. (I play keyboard in Jack Swing and the guitarists from Jack Swing play in ORANGE MUSIC.)

Any other super interesting things about you we should know?

Isaiah is inspired by the views and vibes in the city of Pittsburgh. You can witness in it in his song “The Wharf.”

Joey Spehar is a Pittsburgh native who started as a volunteer D.J. at WYEP, fresh out of college in 2006. He took on any job they’d let him do like editing audio, engineering remote broadcasts, and shoveling snow.
