Middle Kids

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of WYEP’s trusted music experts joins me (Cindy Howes) on The Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Sarah Wardrop from WFUV in New York!

In case you missed, it here’s what she played:

Kishi Bashi, "Say Yeah" - This wizard of violin and loops has more than proven his one man band abilities and gift for merging analog and tech, but he enlisted a few other people to help on his latest album, including drummer Matt Chamberlain and producer Chris Taylor of Grizzly Bear. The new album is Sonderlust (out this Friday) and "Say Yeah" is one sample of its lush pop sound, starting with strings and some Mario Brothers-esque synths, and getting even better when the bass kicks in.

Middle Kids, "Edge of Town" - This is a hook-filled song from a band to watch out of Sydney, Australia, which is due to release an EP in the U.S. soon. There is some classical training in this trio but they are definitely a rock band, and the voice of Hannah Joy can suit whatever sound is behind it, from echoing the slide guitar lines to belting the tempo change into full gear.
