The History of Apple Pie

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh's finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Scott Tady!

In case you missed it here's what he played with commentary by Scott. Click the title to hear the song!

Twin Forks, “Back to You,” - One of my favorite “sleeper” albums of the last few months is this new Americana project starring Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba. This track epitomizes the 5-song disc’s hand-clapping, foot-stomping fun. Sort of like The Lumineers, but not trying so hard. And since the lyricist is Carrabba, there are emo-y references to hearts aflutter just about every other verse. It’s just very listenable.

The History of Apple Pie, “Don’t You Wanna Be Mine,” - No, I wouldn’t have picked that band name, either, especially for a London fuzz-pop group. But there is something undeniably savory to their sound; assuming you’ve got a healthy appetite for early ‘90s shoegazer bands like Lush and My Bloody Valentine. Stephanie Min’s voice and that simple, catchy chorus leave a nice after-taste. The History of Apple Pie is currently in the studio working on a sophomore album to be released next year. This is a special 7’’-inch release to tide you over until then. Think of it as an appetizer.
