Ratatat

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of WYEP’s trusted music experts joins me (Cindy Howes) on The Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Sarah Wardrop from WFUV in New York!

In case you missed, it here’s what she played:

Heartless Bastards, Hi-Line - Restless Ones from Heartless Bastards leans a bit more acoustic than the Austin-based band's past four albums, but it's not at all a bad thing, partly because it lets the voice of Erika Wennerstrom stand out even more. She can wail and she can bring a low lonesome sound to her band's songs. In the case of this more uptempo track, there's a bit of both along with a nice shift in the chorus.

Ratatat, Cream on Chrome - Sometimes a good tune doesn't need a voice to make it sing, and this one from the Brooklyn-based Ratatat is a new instrumental classic. The duo is set to release its fifth album, Magnifique, in July, but they've already added a perfect driving song to this summer's soundtrack.
