It's been almost forty years since Peter Gabriel quit Genesis and while the chances of him and the rest of the band reuniting anytime soon are pretty slim, there is reason to rejoice for a different kind of upcoming Genesis reunion. Gabirel's team confirmed today that the band's prog-rock era lineup (Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, Tony Banks, Steve Hackett and Mike Rutherford) would begin work on a feature length BBC documentary Genesis: Together and Apart. No official air date has been confirmed.

The documentary will outline the band's history, it's evolution of sound, and the band's radio-friendly commercial success in the Eighties following Gabriel's departure from the band.

No official word on if any of this will lead to any touring, long awaited by fans, but this is the closest thing to a reunion that's been seen from the band in many years, so who knows what might happen.

The 16 nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year have been announced! There are several repeat nominees and some new faces, as is the annual tradition. The new nominations include Nirvana, Hall and Oates, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, and Peter Gabriel. Repeat nominations include Kiss, LL Cool J, Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, NWA, and Chic. Nirvana is on the list for the first possible time, since 25 years has passed since their first album Bleach was released.

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are always controversial, and even more so is the final induction. There is usually criticism for the people that get to vote being unfairly biased, as well as for alleged vote fixing, particularly in 2007. Additionally, there has been some outcry about early pioneers in rock and roll being omitted for bigger names that couldn't have made it without their influence.

There is no specific date for when inductees will be announced, but we will be sure to talk about them as soon as we know.

The complete list of nominees is as follows:

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Chic
Deep Purple
Peter Gabriel
Hall And Oates
Kiss
LL Cool J
The Meters
Nirvana
NWA
The Replacements
Linda Ronstadt
Cat Stevens
Link Wray
Yes
The Zombies

The New Music Express reports today that Peter Gabriel has confirmed what and who's songs he will be covering on his forthcoming album.   "Scratch My Back" will be released in January and will feature covers of songs from legendary artists like Talking Heads, Paul Simon, Neil Young, David Bowie and Randy Newman.  Apparently, his cover of Vampire Weekend's "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" earlier this year was just scratching the surface of Gabriel's appreciation of "younger" acts, as he will also be covering songs by Arcade Fire,  Bon Iver,  Elbow, The Magnetic Fields and Regina Spektor.

NME reports that the tracklisting for 'Scratch My Back' is as follows:

'Heroes' (David Bowie)
'The Boy In The Bubble' (Paul Simon)
'Mirrorball' (Elbow)
'Flume' (Bon Iver)
'Listening Wind' (Talking Heads)
'The Power Of The Heart' (Lou Reed)
'My Body Is A Cage' (Arcade Fire)
'The Book Of Love' (The Magnetic Fields)
'I Think It’s Going To Rain Today' (Randy Newman)
'Apres Moi' (Regina Spektor)
'Philadelphia' (Neil Young)
'Street Spirit' (Radiohead)
