Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh’s finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Pop City'sPatrick Bowman
In case you missed, it here's what Patrick played:
Hop Along, "Waitress" - This Philly band is gearing up to release their sophomore album Painted Shut on April 21st, and they dropped the album's barnstorming first single "Waitress" in early March. Lead singer Frances Quinlan's raspy, full-bodied howl really propels this expertly constructed slice of wiry guitar rock into the stratosphere. By the time the track hits its calamitous conclusion, Quinlan is practically on fire.
Tame Impala, "Let it Happen" - After two albums of heady, exploratory psychedelic rock, Australian returns with the new synth-laden single "Let it Happen" off their upcoming third record. The almost eight minute behemoth infuses proggy electro with the group's already established druggy sunshine rock, creating a potent trip which bodes extremely well for their new batch of material. They will be at Stage AE on June 6.
