In a brief statement on behalf of rocker David Bowie, read at a recent charity event in London to celebrate 50 years of Bowie's music , new music is on the way. The Statement reads:

"This city is even better than the one you were in last year, so remember to dance, dance, dance. And then sit down for a minute, knit something, then get up and run all over the place. Do it. Love on ya. More music soon. David"

Bowie stunned the world last year when he, out of nowhere, announced he had completed his first studio album in a decade The Next Day. It looks like fans won't have as much of a wait between albums this time.

Last year David Bowie surprised many fans with the release of his album The Next Day, his first studio record in almost a decade. This past weekend at the Music Producer's Guild Awards in London, Bowie won the Innovation Award for The Next Day  where his producer Tony Visconti picked up the award and talked about Bowie's unreleased tracks. Visconti claimed that while many critics were skeptic on the rest of Bowie's career in the music industry and talked of his retirement, he was writing amazing songs. Visconti claims a few songs written for the album that were not released are astounding and may be released some day.

Bowie is also nominated for two 2014 BRIT awards for Best Male and Best Album which will take place next week. Check out his video for "Where Are We Now?" off of the most recent album.

Congratulations to James Blake, winner of the 2013 Mercury Prize! His album Overgrown beat out contestants like David Bowie, Arctic Monkeys, Laura Marling, and eight other's for the coveted award for musicians from Britain and Ireland.

Blake was nominated once before in 2011 for his eponymous debut album, but lost it to PJ Harvey's album Let England Shake. All the artists nominated for the Mercury Prize inevitably receive huge boosts in album sales due to the prestigious nature of the award. In addition to publicity, the winner of the Mercury Prize gets 20,000 pound, or $32,000.

Below is the music video for "Retrograde", the lead single from James Blake's album Overgrown.

The Mercury Prize has announced it's nominees for the 2013 award season. The Prize is used to honor one artist from the United Kingdom or Ireland for outstanding music, and is usually a huge boost for any artist that receives it. This year's nominees have a giant in their midst, so it's definitely going to be a nail biter. The nominees include The Arctic Monkeys, James Blake, David Bowie, Jake Bugg, Disclosure, Foals, Jon Hopkins, Laura Marling, Laura Mvula, Rudimental, Savages, and Villagers.

This year, James Blake receives his second nomination, his first being for his eponymous breakthrough record in 2011. He has come from a dubstep background, and has worked with some huge names in the music industry, including Brian Eno. The Arctic Monkeys have already won a Mercury Prize in 2006 with their album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. Laura Marling is enjoying her third nomination for her latest release, Once I Was an Eagle. Villagers, Foals, and Jon Hopkins each have a second nomination, although Jon Hopkins' last nomination was for a collaboration with King Creosote in 2011.

Of course the obvious leader of the pack is David Bowie. David Bowie has never won a Mercury Prize since the awards were started in 1992, although he was nominated in 2002 for his album Heathen. His first album in 10 years came as a bit of a surprise for most, but seeing this giant on the list of nominees shouldn't be.

Last year's recipients were Alt-J for the album An Awesome Wave. This year, the winner will be announced on October 30th.

Last night, Arcade Fire unveiled their latest single and two, yes two, music videos to accompany it. The song, called "Reflektor", is very much influenced by disco, and even features David Bowie on vocals. If you have eight minutes to spare, take a look at this video and groove out to this long, slow building jam.  This single is the title track to their fourth album, also called Reflektor, which is expected to drop October 29th on Merge Records.

If you'll pardon the pun, the music video reflects the disco-themed nature of the new single. "Reflektor" features so much disco ball mirrored imagery that you'd feel right at home in a discotheque, but that doesn't mean that the video is spreading only positive vibes. Surreal imagery might make the hair on your neck stand on end as the song slowly moves along to its cinematic climax.

The second music video is actually an interactive video designed for the Google Chrome web browser. Reflektor's interactive video is the third interactive video that Arcade Fire has released, the previous videos being for "The Wilderness Downtown" and "Neon Bible". The latest installment was produced in Jamaica by Vincent Morriset, who has collaborated with Arcade Fire on other occasions. Be sure that you have a webcam and a smart phone or tablet with you if you want to get involved in the interactive video. They aren't necessarily required for the video, but they make the experience more unique. A mouse will do just fine otherwise if you forego a tablet.

David Bowie has released another new song and video from his new album The Next Day, which will be released on March 12. The video for "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" stars Oscar winning actress, Tilda Swinton and Bowie as a married couple that is being harassed by a younger couple played by Andrej Pejic and Saskia de Brauw. Directed by Floria Sigismondi, the video portrays a happily married couple, whose world is disturbed and then re-arranged by the intrusion of a younger/celebrity couple. The goal was to capture “a twenty first century moment in its convergence of age, gender and the normal/celebrity divide.”The song is currently available for download on iTunes. Check out the video and also lyrics to "The Stars (Are Out Tonight)" (via Bowie's Facebook) below.
