Daft Punk

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh's finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Justin Jacobs (talking to us from Israel via Skype!), contributing writer to Billboard & Relix Magazine.

In case you missed it, here is what he played with commentary by Justin:

Lissie, "Shameless" -  Lissie's debut was gorgeous acoustic folk. Her first full LP was catchy pop-rock. But on this first single for her upcoming second album is straight up rock'n'roll. This track could've been terrible - cranked up guitars and a lovely voice don't always mix - but she pulls it off. If the album is this good, she'll be a star in six months.

Daft Punk, "Doin' It Right" - Everybody got down on "Get Lucky," but this is my favorite track from Daft Punk's hit "Random Access Memories." It's repetitive (read: mesmerizing) with vocals from Animal Collective's Panda Bear. A late-summer jam to make your next pool party extra-funky.

Daft Punk Justin Jacobs Lissie Morning Mix The 9:13 Buzz

Over the weekend, Daft Punk aired a mysterious 15 second ad during Saturday Night Live. No other information was given, just 15 glorious seconds of Daft Punk. Lucky for everyone, Youtube user dj7848 has made a 10 hour loop of the clip:

Hoping we get details about the release soon because aside from their 2010 score to Tron: Legacy, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo haven't released an album since 2005's Human After All. Besides Rodgers, Chilly Gonzales, Panda Bear and even Muppets songwriter Paul Williams have all allegedly contributed to Daft Punk's recording, and the duo announced in January that they had signed a deal with Columbia Records.
