Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic made a rare public appearance in Aberdeen on Saturday, September 20th to attend a dedication for a new mural in Nirvana's honor. The Mural is placed on the side of Moore's Interior a local business in the home town of Kurt Cobain and a starting point for Nirvana.  The mural draws artistic inspiration not only from Nirvana itself, but also various artists that were favorites of the band and other quintessential 90's rock bands that shared the scene with Nirvana. Novoselic remarks on what drew him to the dedication, "What sold me on the mural is it's not just a Nirvana mural, there's a community there...when we started playing in Aberdeen and we started playing in the northwest, there was an infrastructure; we had support. there was a a music community". The dedication featured various artists covering classic Nirvana songs and also coincides with the anniversary of Nirvana album Nevermind which turned 23 on the 24th of September.

Aberdeen Krist Novoselic Nirvana The Morning Mix

Saturday, April 5th marked the 20th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death. On April 5th, 1994 Nirvana's front man took his life at 27 years old in his Seattle home. Had Cobain not taken his life, he would be 46 years old today. Sachs Media Group commissioned an age progression for Kurt Cobain of what he would look like:

This past weekend, various artists paid tribute to Cobain's death, performing live covers of Nirvana songs.

At Lollapalooza Brazil in Sao Paolo, Muse covered one of Nirvana's classic songs, "Lithium".

Coincidentally, this same night St. Vincent performed "Lithium" in Chicago

Nirvana will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Thursday, April 10 in New York City, an event that is open to the general public for the first time. Nirvana bassist, Krist Novoselic has brought up the fact that the remaining members of Nirvana may be performing at the ceremony.

Whether or not Nirvana plays together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl will be interviewed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, April 8th. This week The Tonight Show will also include guests such as Yusef Islam (Cat Stevens), Stevie Nicks, Kiss, and John Oates of Hall and Oates.

The 16 nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year have been announced! There are several repeat nominees and some new faces, as is the annual tradition. The new nominations include Nirvana, Hall and Oates, The Replacements, Linda Ronstadt, and Peter Gabriel. Repeat nominations include Kiss, LL Cool J, Cat Stevens, Deep Purple, NWA, and Chic. Nirvana is on the list for the first possible time, since 25 years has passed since their first album Bleach was released.

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are always controversial, and even more so is the final induction. There is usually criticism for the people that get to vote being unfairly biased, as well as for alleged vote fixing, particularly in 2007. Additionally, there has been some outcry about early pioneers in rock and roll being omitted for bigger names that couldn't have made it without their influence.

There is no specific date for when inductees will be announced, but we will be sure to talk about them as soon as we know.

The complete list of nominees is as follows:

The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Chic
Deep Purple
Peter Gabriel
Hall And Oates
Kiss
LL Cool J
The Meters
Nirvana
NWA
The Replacements
Linda Ronstadt
Cat Stevens
Link Wray
Yes
The Zombies

In Utero Morning Mix Nirvana

Nirvana have announced that they plan on reissue a 20th anniversary of their album In Utero.  In Utero was released on September 13, 1993 and was the trio's third and finale release.  Two years ago, a 20th anniversary edition of Nevermind was rereleased.  In Utero will be be given a similar treatment.

The full details of the deluxe reissue have not been released yet.  However, we can assume it'll be released in September to honor its original release.  A vintage promo clip was released for In Utero that features comedian "Bobcat" Goldthwait dressed in drag, talking Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl through "childbirth" on the floor of a schoolroom.

You can watch the promo video for In Utero below.

In Utero Morning Mix Nirvana

On what would have been Kurt Cobain's 46th birthday today, we reflect on Nirvana's one and only Pittsburgh appearances. In the fall of 1991, Kurt, Dave and Krist performed at Graffiti in Oakland. It was right before Nirvana became the biggest rock band of the 1990's with Nevermind having only been released six days prior on September 24, 1991. What went down at the Pittsburgh club, however, was one of the more infamous nights in Graffiti history. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Scott Mervis recapped the evening's events in his article: Here's to the Memories, which recounts memories of Graffiti, including Nirvana's historical appearance.

After the band got into a confrontation with the club, it was recorded that:

"The band was outnumbered and not up to a fight so Cobain took his frustration out on the couch by sparking it with a pack of matches. The couch either just smoldered or flamed up and caught other things on fire, depending on whom you ask. It was big enough for the fire marshal to arrive and arrest the road manager. DiNardo decided not to press charges, allowing the band to go on to bigger and (temporarily) better things. Unfortunately, the couch, which could probably be sold at auction today, didn't survive."
