The 9:13 Buzz with Sarah Wardrop

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of WYEP’s trusted music experts joins me (Cindy Howes) on The Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Sarah Wardrop from WFUV in New York!

In case you missed, it here’s what she played:

Beth Orton,"1973" - A new album from Beth Orton is good news enough, but the fact that beats are back in her sound is even better. With nods to her late '90s "folktronica," Orton incorporates the synth-pop textures of today too. The result (in this song especially) is a perfect combo of her breathy melodies and a playful spark. Look for Kidsticks, out on May 27.

Adia Victoria,"Dead Eyes" - South Carolina, Atlanta, New York City, Paris and now Nashville have been part of Adia Victoria's life and travels, so while this song showcases rock, blues, country, swagger and hurt, it's just a taste of what she can do. Her influences and versatility extend her sound into soulful sweetness and punk edge, and we'll get to hear more when her debut album, Beyond the Bloodhounds, is released on May 13.
