Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh’s finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Scott Tady!
In case you missed it here’s what he played with commentary by Scott:
Chet Vincent & The Big Bend, "One Night Only" - A shout-out to Misra Records for allowing us this radio exclusive from the Pittsburgh rock band's forthcoming album (out in June). This cut's a bit twangier than some of the more Neil Young-ish tracks. The whole album has an rambunctious, frisky urgency with off-kilter lyrics and hooks that stick immediately.
Hot Hot Heat, "Kid Who Stays in the Picture" - The Vancouver rockers announced their farewell album after 17 years. This is the single, a bouncy mid-tempo track with a couple odd synth warbles to keep you on your toes. The lyrics are a bit of a mantra about staying passionate over selfish interests. Singer Steve Bays says it's a song about his best friend from childhood, who seemed destined for fame. "He was the best singer, actor, comedian, athlete... you name it, but as we grew up, I watched his laughter fade to seriousness as 'real life' eroded his sense of humor and wonder. He inadvertently taught me the importance of fighting to stay young at heart and holding onto your innocence for as long as you can, because once it's gone, it's gone."
