Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh’s finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Pop City'sPatrick Bowman
In case you missed, it here's what Patrick played:
Deerhunter, “Snakeskin” - Deerhunter has always been a band that seemed poise to break through and achieve the kind of attention The National or Grizzly Bear get in terms of relatively popular indie music acts, but it never really happened. I do think lead singer/mastermind Bradford Cox is one of the best songwriters in America, and now as the group returns with their seventh album Fading Frontier in October, and they just dropped their lead single “Snakeskin,” I feel like it could still break through a bit. “Snakeskin” is a dirty little piece of glam rock, with Cox vamping it up as he unspools a lot of southern gothic weirndess in this sort of clipped, poetic prose.
Destroyer, “Times Square" - Dan Bejar, a member of the New Pornographers and primary component of Destroyer, just released his latest record as Destroyer, a double album titled Poison Season, and his most recent single is that album’s centerpiece “Times Square.”
