Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of Pittsburgh's finest music writers joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight.
Today we welcome Justin Jacobs
(talking to us from Israel via Skype!), contributing writer to Billboard & Relix Magazine.
In case you missed it, here is what he played with commentary by Justin:
- Lissie's debut was gorgeous acoustic folk. Her first full LP was catchy pop-rock. But on this first single for her upcoming second album is straight up rock'n'roll. This track could've been terrible - cranked up guitars and a lovely voice don't always mix - but she pulls it off. If the album is this good, she'll be a star in six months.
Daft Punk, "Doin' It Right"
- Everybody got down on "Get Lucky," but this is my favorite track from Daft Punk's hit "Random Access Memories." It's repetitive (read: mesmerizing) with vocals from Animal Collective's Panda Bear. A late-summer jam to make your next pool party extra-funky.
