Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation (“PCBC”) is comprised of stations 90.5 WESA and 91.3 WYEP, and is an Equal Opportunity Employer for all persons regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, veteran status, physical characteristics and disabilities, or socioeconomic status.

PCBC shall seek opportunities to collaborate with other organizations to develop and provide programs that serve diverse populations, groups, cultures and geographical areas within the region. We are committed to building and developing a diverse and inclusive environment where a variety of ideas, cultures and perspectives can thrive.
To these ends, PCBC implements the following strategies to cultivate diversity and inclusion throughout its activities and programs.
PCBC strives to widen our reach and deepen our audience engagement with new programming initiatives. On-air, online and community based tactics include:
- Developing new programs for on-air and digital distribution.
- Reaching diverse demographics and engaging community members from diverse neighborhoods through community events and education programs.
- Providing music services including and beyond terrestrial broadcast to open the doors to new audiences.
- Beyond broadcast programming, PCBC works toward creating opportunities to engage the community through events that create social capital in Pittsburgh and beyond, bringing people together around common interests and appreciation for culture to make our community a better place to live and work.
The Education and Community Engagement Department of PCBC is a critical component to engaging young audiences and reaching at-risk populations. Those involved with Education and Community Engagement work to build existing programs and develop new programs that reflect the mission and visions of WYEP and WESA and reach diverse audiences.
EMPLOYMENT & BUSINESS PRACTICES

PCBC seeks to provide timely access to information about employment opportunities within the organization by practicing the following action steps:
- Post all PCBC employment opportunities on the station web sites for 90.5 WESA and 91.3 WYEP.
- Post all PCBC employment opportunities nationally and regionally with job availability sites and resources such as the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, minority journalist organizations and other national and local sources.
- Attend at least one open job fair annually to recruit potential new hires, interns and volunteers.
- PCBC acts in good faith to afford all PCBC vendors, particularly MBE/WBE/DBE businesses, access to information about purchasing and contracting activities.
PCBC endeavors to promote diversity in the appointment of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board through the following mechanisms:
- PCBC Board Governance Committee to recruit candidates who are representative of the population of PCBC’s coverage area for seats on the Board of Directors and Advisory Board.
- Consider diversity as a criterion when citizens are appointed to the Community Advisory Board or any ad-hoc committees and volunteer opportunities.
PCBC’s General Manager is charged with implementing its diversity plan and reports annually to PCBC’s Board of Directors on the actions taken, as well as maintaining PCBC’s public file annual report to the Federal Communication Commission.
PCBC’s Diversity Policy was updated and adopted by the Board of the Pittsburgh Community Broadcasting Corporation in September 2014. WYEP’s and WESA’s licenses to broadcast are federally authorized and thus must and do comply with strict federally mandated EEO regulations. In 2006 PCBC’s Board retained an independent communications law firm to review our EEO policy and procedures to ensure that we effectively meet or exceed the regulations; PCBC passed the legal review and we adopted reporting procedure changes to improve our program.
