Featured in the Disney film Fantasia and based on a poem by Goethe, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice tells the story of a young apprentice who uses magical spells he has not yet learned to control. Pianist Michel Camilo, whose musical flair combines elements of classical, jazz and world music, performs his own Piano Concerto No. 2 as soloist. Conductor Leonard Slatkin presents several works that demonstrate Ravel’s penchant for reinterpreting the music of traditional dance forms, including his famous Boléro.
*Please note the March 15th performance is part of the “Behind the Notes” program and only the Ravel works will be performed. Also, please note that Michel Camilo will not be appearing on this performance.
