Over the weekend, Pittsburgh celebrated the birthday of one of it's most beloved natives, Fred Rogers. Initially educated to be a minister, Rogers was displeased with TV Programs for kids. He made an effort to change this when he began to write for and perform on local shows dedicated to youth. Mister Rogers' Neighborhood began airing in 1968 and ran for 895 episodes and over the course of three decades on television, Fred Rogers became an American icon of children's entertainment and education, as well as a symbol of compassion, patience, and morality.
