Joey Spehar

Morning Mix Co-Host / Digital Services Coordinator

joey@wyep.org

Hello there.

I co-host the Morning Mix with Cindy Howes.  We wake up really early.  That means we go to bed really early.  Honestly, I haven't seen 10:00pm in a really long time.  I'm in no way complaining, though.  I love my job for many reasons.

I have the coolest job in the world.  I get to listen to music, talk about music, meet people who share a similar passion for music, occasionally meet some of my favorite musicians, and keep a guitar at my desk.  Pretty fun, huh??

That's only half of my job here at WYEP...

I'm also the Coordinator of Digital Services here.  What does that mean?  Well, if you interact with WYEP on Facebook or Twitter, you have probably interacted with me.  I like to sneak in pictures of my adorable Rottweiler, Mumford, whenever I can.

This Is My Favorite Thing About WYEP:

This one time, I got to meet The Hold Steady and this other time, I got to meet Frightened Rabbit. (!!)

These Are Some Other Things I Also Love Very Much About WYEP:

I work with a bunch of music nerds who don't get mad at you when you talk about your favorite band all day.

I get to meet people who feel the same way about music as I do.

Nobody gets mad when you bring your dog to work.  (Except maybe Tony Pirollo.)

Something You Should Know About Me:

Sometimes I lie about the first concert I ever attended.  I like to say it was Eels and Poe at Metropol when I was in 7th grade.  That is not true.  My mom wouldn't let me go.  My brother, Bobby, went and he says it was incredible.  He brought me back two t-shirts.  I have the best brother in the world.

The Actual First Concert I Ever Attended was the Skoal R.O.A.R. Tour.  I went to see the Bloodhound Gang and in the process discovered Iggy Pop.  This was a very good day.

Some Other Things You Should Know About Me:

I think The Hold Steady could cover any song ever written and make it sound like their own.

I love Rod Stewart and some people think I should be ashamed of myself.  I am not.  He's the greatest.

I hate acting like a Music Snob.  You like what you like.  Don't ever feel bad about it.

This Is Something That Has Been Said About Me:

Joey is the most benevolent and generous with his cinnamon rolls.

That's it for now.  Thanks for wasting your time here.  I understand you can never get that back, so I hope it wasn't too bad.  I'm looking forward to meeting you at the next WYEP event.  Don't be shy!!
