Rock Radio Camp 2 Sessions for Summer 2011

If you aren’t already dreaming of summer, we know your kids are as they near the end of the academic year. Keep their musical or technological minds inspired by sending them to WYEP’s classroom, er, studio! We meant studio! (It’ll be our secret.)

Enroll your middle school-aged children in one of two day camp sessions, 9am-2pm:
Monday, July 18 – Friday, July 22
Monday, August 8 – Friday, August 12

After you pick them up each day, be sure to ask them how it went and I guarantee you’ll get more than “fine.” They’ll tell you how they met and interviewed people who work in the music industry, listened to lots of different music, recorded the whole experience and learned to edit, etc.

Enrollment tuition is $175 for WYEP members / $200 for non-members. Once application has been submitted and confirmed, payment may be made by credit card over the phone (412-381-9131 × 220) or by check.

Lunch is not included. Participants must bring a brown bag lunch.

Space is limited so sign up soon.

We'll countdown the most popular songs, starting at 6am on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.

Teen Center A new project of the Education Department

*The Due Date for Applications has been extended. Accepting Applications until November 3rd.*

WYEP is beginning a brand new project centered on youth empowerment. We have noticed that there are a lot of intelligent, passionate teens in this city with strong voices and great talent. We have been wondering though, how those voices can be better projected. We want the Pittsburgh region to hear what our youth have to say about what is important to them.

To honor that vision of the future we have begun a project which will be teen-driven. We are looking for teens who are interested in learning how to project their voices through a variety of media, including radio. But we are not interested in telling those teens what to say. We want teens who would like to develop their leadership skills - who are interested in spending time with the issues that are important to them.

The future of this project is a teen-led organization centered on media creation and advocacy.

If you or a teen you know would like to:
-acquire radio production skills
-learn more about issues which are important to them
-become a spokesperson for youth issues in the Pittsburgh region

WYEP is receiving applications until November 3.

Decisions will be made by November 4.

During this first phase participants will be meeting 2 Saturdays a month from 1-4pm at The WYEP Community Broadcast Center from November 2011-June 2012. For a full schedule and/or more information contact
