WYEP's Final Fridays: Diego Garcia w/ The Harlan Twins
On Friday evening, The University of Pittsburgh homecoming fireworks will be starting shortly after 9 p.m. Due to this schedule change, The Harlan Twins will begin their opening set at 6:45 p.m., and Diego Garcia at 7:45 p.m.
Music will end promptly at 9 p.m., at which point the crowd will need to move to the back of Schenley Plaza in order to accomodate the fireworks being set off from Mazeroski Field.
Argentinean-American musician Diego Garcia got his musical start in the New York-based indie-rock group Elefant in the early 2000’s, and toured with acts including Morrissey, Interpol and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Elefant’s commercial success landed their material in popular television shows, such as Scrubs, The O.C., and Grey’s Anatomy. After the group separated in 2010, Garcia returned to his cultural roots and produced two solo albums: Laura, an introspective 2011 release chronicling a lost love; and Paradise, due out on October 8th from Concord Records.
The Harlan Twins are a Pittsburgh quintet toting a ''70s country-rock...or Bloomfield Americana" sound. They burst onto the Pittsburgh music scene with the release of their self-titled album in June 2009, followed by Blue in Bloomfield in June 2011, The Livingroom Sessions in April 2012, and Old Familiar in September 2012. They have been touring in the Pittsburgh area since 2009, and will open for Diego Garcia at September's Final Fridays.
