57 selected artworks by 56 artists from eight countries and 24 states will be on view in Fiberart International 2019 (FI2019), the 23rd triennial exhibition on contemporary textile. Sponsored by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, FI2019 is a comprehensive exhibition and survey to explore the unexpected relationships between fiber and other creative disciplines, as well as a documentation of the changing definition of textile art and a showcase of works by a diverse group of artists who have been underrepresented in large institutions. The selected artists draw on a variety of visual languages and global points of view to transform ancient textile techniques and non-traditional materials into contemporary fiber artworks that ask questions and challenge the viewers for self-reflection. More than 10,000 visitors are expected to come from all over the world to see FI2019. The opening reception and awards ceremony for FI2019 will be on Friday, May 31, 2019, 5:30 – 8:30 PM. FI2019 will be exhibiting at two locations: Contemporary Craft in The Strip will open on Mondays – Saturdays, 10 AM – 5 PM, and the Brew House Association in Southside will be open 11 AM – 4 PM on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 2 – 7 PM on Thursdays. This exhibition is free and open to the public.
