For Parents: Why CentsCity?

In these economic times, the need for financial education has never been more clear. High school seniors correctly answered fewer than half of the questions of a 2008 test of basic financial knowledge by the Jump$tart Coalition, while teens surveyed by Teenage Research Unlimited reported spending 97% of their money instead of saving it! Meanwhile, total US consumer debt reached $2.5 trillion in December 2008, up from $2.191 trillion at the end of 2004 (The Federal Reserve).

The result is that a startling majority of people ages 18-39 do not feel financially secure and make choices weighed down by this insecurity and a lack of basic financial skills.

CentsCity A CentsCity passport gives your kid access to the CentsCity online world and provides a fun, educational way of linking the virtual experience to the real world. In CentsCity, kids travel on "quests" to landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, where they view themed videos on financial subjects including creating a budget, owning a credit card, and making investments. These videos are followed by interactive quizzes reinforcing the financial concept. As each youth gains virtual currency by learning financial skills, he or she will be able to earn books, movie and event passes, special privileges, or other rewards.

CentsCity is packed with opportunities to learn and have fun by investing in jewels, donating to charities, and banking at Penny Bank. Adults are able to track and customize their kids' experiences through tools at CentsCity.com.
