WYEP Presents Final Fridays: the Soul Show Celebration featuring Poogie Bell and Waterseed

Poogie Bell is a Pittsburgh based drummer, composer, band leader and producer. Best known for his collaborations with such artists as Marcus Miller, Erykah Badu, David Bowie, Roberta Flack, Al Jarreau, Cheaka Khan, and other luminaries, He has just returned from a European tour and is working on his next album. This will be the first appearance at a WYEP Final Friday concert by Poogie Bell and his band.

Waterseed reflects the diverse feelings and experiences of Black America. Founded by New Orleans-born multi-instrumentalists Lou Hill and J. Sharp, the architects of Water Seed’s cool, elemental sound, the band thrives on rhythm and groove, elegant jazz flourishes and lyrical songs deeply rooted in Louisiana jazz traditions melded with the modern in the creation of the new.

WYEP Presents Final Fridays: Apache Relay and Son Little

The Apache Relay- An American Folk-Rock Band from Nashville, Tennessee.  Formed in the dorms of Belmont University, the band is now currently touring their album “The Apache Relay” and have performed with major artists including Mumford &Sons and at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Newport Folk Festival.

 

Son Little- “Cross My Heart” is the debut track from this new artist. Son Little combines future soul and r&b grooves in his music.  Starting off at Columbia University, his journey eventually led him to performing with the legendary Roots crew and now draws comparisons with Marvin Gaye and a young Stevie Wonder.

WYEP Presents Final Fridays: The Districts and Ryley Walker

The Districts- Hailing from Lititz, Pa, The Districts are known for their honest lyrics and punk/folk feel. They have appeared in various big-name venues such as The Governors Ball in New York City and have also appeared onLate Night with Seth Meyers. Their current album “A Flourish and a Spoil” is out now.

 

 

 

 

 

Ryley Walker- From Chicago Illionis, Walker has drawn comparisons with Van Morrison, Tim Buckley and Bert Jansch (not a bad crew to be associated with). Walker is a true American guitar player, and his fingerpicking style is prominently featured on his music. His current album, “Primrose Green” is out now. As NPR proclaimed, “Acoustic swagger exists, and Ryley Walker has it.”
