The 9:13 Buzz with Sarah Wardrop

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of WYEP’s trusted music experts joins me (Cindy Howes) on The Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Sarah Wardrop from WFUV in New York! In case you missed, it here’s what she played:

MUNA, "Loudspeaker" - MUNA is an LA-based band that call its sound "dark pop." The talented trio writes, produces and performs the songs top to bottom, and even though there's definite pop polish, the lyrics have real depth and heart. They proved that in their SXSW performance for FUV by doing a version of "Loudspeaker" with just two guitars and three voices (for the first time, by the way). Look for the studio version as the title track of a new EP due out on May 6.

Margaret Glaspy, "You and I" - Margaret Glaspy is a Northern California native who is now based in New York and spent some time in Boston in-between. She apparently has fiddle skills and it makes sense given the melody in her guitar lines. Mixed with the melody is some edge – musically and lyrically – and you'll hear both in this tune, which is on Glaspy's recent EP and hopefully on her forthcoming debut album too.
