The 9:13 Buzz with Justin Jacobs

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of our most trusted music aficionados joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Justin Jacobs

In case you missed it, here's what Justin played (commentary by JJ):

Car Seat Headrest, "Fill in the Blank" - Ignore the awful name for a second and turn this one up — this is noisy, guitar-driven indie rock at its finest. The single comes from Teens of Denial, the first proper release from Car Seat Headrest after band leader Will Toledo's long run of self-released Bandcamp albums that stretches back to 2010. With "Fill in the Blank," Toledo hollers that "You've got no right to be depressed," a line that's as attention-grabbing as it is provocative. But sung in such a catchy melody, it's best to shout along and not overthink things.

Brand New, "I Am a Nightmare" - The saviours of emo return! Brand New have long been the among the most experimental and original bands to ever be labeled as emo. Their last album was a thrashy, messy affair back in 2009 and they've been largely silent ever since. But with "I Am a Nightmare," the band is returning to a sound thats a bit easier to swallow. There's still no promise of a new album, but fans can cross their fingers that one is in the works.
