The 9:13 Buzz with Justin Jacobs

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of our most trusted music aficionados joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Justin Jacobs

In case you missed it, here's what Justin played (commentary by JJ):

Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, "Over the Rise" - Classic rock's other beloved Bruce returns with a brand new album — but without his signature piano. Don't worry, though, Hornsby's songwriting chops are amazing, as always, and his new musical direction works wonderfully. The album, Rehab Reunion, is a mellow, folk record with Hornsby on the dulcimer, giving every song an acoustic, wind-swept openness. This first single features Bon Iver's Justin Vernon on background (and barely there) vocals.

New Madrid, "Darker Parts" - Do you love Television, old school Modest Mouse and early days Animal Collective? If you're on WYEP's website reading this, the answer is "Of course." That's why New Madrid is the new band for you. These dudes wrap all those influences into one weird, winding package that's as catchy as it is creative. They're new album, magnetkingmagnetqueen, is out now.
