The 9:13 Buzz with Justin Jacobs

Every Wednesday at 9:13 am, one of our most trusted music aficionados joins me (Cindy Howes) on the Morning Mix to play a couple favorite new songs and share some insight. Today we welcome Justin Jacobs

In case you missed it, here's what Justin played (commentary by JJ):

Band of Horses, "Casual Party" - Ben Bridwell's Band of Horses dipped weirdly into faceless, sparkless rock for a few years there, but with the upcoming Why Are You OK?, the group is back in the saddle. The album has the same otherworldly Southern rock vibes as Band of Horses' first two (now modern classic) records. It may be the help with production from Grandaddy's Jason Lytle, it may Bridwell's songwriting coming fresh off a project with Iron & Wine's Sam Beam. Whatever it is, I'm happy these dudes are back.

Islands, "Fear" - Nick Thorburn became an indie favorite in the early 2000's with the Unicorns, but he's proved some staying power with his current band, Islands. The indie-pop bandleader creates coy, catchy and quirky guitar pop that's as fun as it is unique. This month Islands releases two brand new albums, Should I Remain Here at Sea and Taste, on the same day. If "Fear" is any indication, both will be great.
