Pittsburgh's own Meeting of Important People's rowdy instrumental "Pretzel Rod Blues" will be featured on MTV's The Real World: Washington DC's season premiere. The show airs tomorrow (Wed, Dec. 30th) at 10 pm on MTV. When asked, lead singer Josh Verbanets proclaimed "We don't know how it will be used... it could be inaudible, but its definitely in there". Hopefully "Pretzel Rod Blues" will be sweeping the nation... more on MOIP (WYEP's #1 Local Act of the Year) is here: http://myspace.com/meetingofimportantpeopleMOIP

A reliable source from Ryan Adams' record label, Lost Highway, confirms that Chris Feinstein, member of The Cardinals, was found dead yesterday in his New York apartment.

Feinstein joined Ryan Adams and The Cardinals in 2006, replacing Catherine Popper on bass guitar. Before joining the Cardinals, Feinstein recorded with Jack Ingram and Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., among others. He also appears on and served as a producer on the I am Sam soundtrack. He was 42.

Pittsburgh is sounding good this month :)
Please let me know what you think: Cindy@wyep.org
Mark Bethune- "Rocket" (Faces)
Sounds like a combination of Jose Gonzalez and Marc Bolan (T. Rex). Originally from Canada, just moved to Pgh for school (I think at CMU) from London.
The Deceptions- "Not Breathing" (Sinner's Soul)
Great big alt-country sound. Like Old 97s and 1980's Johnny Cash/Waylon Jennings
Kevin Finn- "Blown Spirits" (Thirteen Rune)
Lo-fi indie folk. Kevin's sound is similar to Mark Kozelek(Red House Painters/Sun Kil Moon)
City Dwelling Nature Seekers- "Will and a Way" (City Dwelling Nature Seekers)
These guys are recent Duquesne grads who have probably listened to tons of Whiskeytown, Gillian Welch and Son Volt. Easy, breezy sounding debut.
