The Local 913: Sierra Sellers
You’d never guess it if you saw her singing, but Sierra Sellers used to be afraid of the spotlight. Over the last few years, though, she’s really embraced the public side of her music career. "One thing that I was really focusing on was performing and getting over my stage fright and having a band and trying to build that up. Fortunately," she said, "I’m very blessed with a lot of talented musicians who play with me. I’m very happy and proud to have that friendship and bond with them."
Positivity pours from the stage when Sellers and her band are locked in a groove and those good vibes show up in the studio as well. "I always write about love," says Sellers, "And it’s not for any other reason than I’ve lived a very blessed life and I’ve had nothing but love surround me. I don’t really feel like I’ve experienced a lot of drama or hate or those kinds of things. Love is what I’m most familiar with and even though everybody has dark moments in their lives, I prefer to stay within the light and my light is love."
Go ahead, try and not tap your toes or slowly bob your head when you’re listening to Sierra Sellers. On her latest song, “Shine (feat. My Favorite Color,” Sellers embraces the notion that when you’re good with yourself, you’re good with the world. She says, "It’s just about going out and having fun with your friends and being yourself and not needing to indulge in substances or alcohol – just having fun! We were supposed to do a music video for it and I was trying to set that up at Kennywood. That was going to show that we’re in our twenties, but we’re still kids and we can still have fun!"
