The Local 913: Katie Joy

00:00

The cultivation of Katie Joy’s spot on pop sensibility is unique in that she basically grew up in the woods out by Uniontown, PA, which is not known for being a pop-music mecca.

“I grew up on a farm, actually. A lot of people don’t know that about me. I grew up listening to country and classic rock. Then when I was in high school, I started to listen to different types of music. I realized that I really like pop music and personally I think I have a good voice for it. It was something I found easy to write. I’ve always liked to sing and I learned piano when I was six and picked up the guitar when I was 12. I started writing my own songs. I was in marching band and choir; I’m still in choir right now. I’ve always liked to play and sing.”

Her interest in pursuing music has taken her to Westminster College where she is not only minoring in music and psychology, but majoring in business. Her latest release is an EP titled Collective Canvas.
