Local 913, Episode 67: Eva Eris
Latrobe native and former X Factor contestant Jessica Saenz recently underwent an intense and inspiring change in creative direction:
“I had gotten to a point in my career and life where I was dealing with a lot of anxiety. I was trying to figure out where in the world I was supposed to go next. I needed to get away to the middle of the woods; away from everything. A friend of mine let me stay in his camper for a week. I brought my keyboard, some recording equipment and a box of wine and just zenned out. It was wonderful! That’s when I was really able to get to this place where I was being really vulnerable in my songwriting. It was kind of a spiritual experience for me.”
After that retreat, Saenz started writing and performing under the stage name Eva Eris:
“When I started writing this new music, I knew I had to come up with a stage name because it was just so different from what I had been doing. I just started Googling some ideas of how other people got their stage name. A lot of people will pay tribute to someone they admire. The name Eva comes from Eva Cassidy. She is a huge influence of mine. She was never about selling out. She just wanted to create music and she always sang from the heart. The name Eris comes from the Greek goddess of chaos and strife and discord. I just feel like it embodies this darker new music that I’m doing.”
Look out for a new EP in August from Eva Eris. In the meantime, you can check her out online here.
