Erin McKeown Guest DJs at WYEP
Erin McKeown has been a longtime friend of WYEP, having played our Summer Music Festival several times as well as visiting to play live on the air on multiple occasions. Recently, we welcomed Erin back to play guest DJ, playing songs from her laptop and discussing her forthcoming album Manifestra and her recent efforts as an activist. We were lucky enough to get from Erin a world-premiere sneak peek at one of the songs from Manifestra (due out early 2013), the song "Baghdad to the Bayou." Erin reveals the song's startling backstory, which involved text messages from MSNBC's Rachel Maddow and an inspiration by This American Life's Ira Glass.
Erin's selections:
- Ryan Montbleau, "Yeah Man" (For Higher)
- Ben Sollee, "Unfinished" (Half Made Man)
- Tune-Yards, "Gangsta" (Whokill)
- Erin McKeown & Susan Werner, "Islands in the Stream" (live from the Cabin Fever series)
- Mel & Tim, "Backfield in Motion" (Beg Scream & Shout: The Big Ol' Box of '60s Soul)
