East Liberty Live: ANONYMOUS BODIES - MASH UP BODYDuring this yearlong residency, Philadelphia-based dancer/choreographer Kate Watson-Wallace will use her fresh perspective in connecting with Pittsburgh dance community to take an in-depth look at how this community connects and shares information and ideas, with the goal of strengthening the entire dance community. Ms. Watson-Wallace will work with her mentor Miguel Gutierrez to develop a new work. This new work will expand her repertoire, enhance her appeal to presenters and give her the opportunity to travel and perform in many other venues. As the presenter, Kelly Strayhorn Theater (KST) enjoys a burgeoning national reputation as a dance presenter that is extremely supportive of emerging artists. Through this program, Kelly Strayhorn will have the opportunity to work with Ms. Watson-Wallace once again. She was a featured artist in the KST newMoves series in 2009, 2011, and 2012. In collaborating with an artist from beyond this region, KST will benefit by being made aware of new dance companies, programming and residency opportunities. At the end of the residency, KST will have the opportunity to premiere “Mash Up Body.” As part of its mission the KST has made a commitment to support emerging dance companies and present new works. By bringing in a nationally known choreographer, we are fulfilling our vision while finding meaningful new ways to engage the local dance audiences. Supported with a grant from the Investing in Professional Artists program, a partnership of The Heinz Endowments and The Pittsburgh Foundation.
