East Liberty Live: LOSTWAX - PARTICULARFrom Providence, Rhode Island, LOSTWAX visits KST for a weeklong residency to develop their new full-length evening work, Particular. Like previous acclaimed performances before it, Particular uses cutting-edge technologies seamlessly on stage with powerful movement by choreographer Jamie Jewett for an electrifying pairing of dance and digital media. In this work-in-progress showing, LOSTWAX shares two 8-minute excerpts of their new work; a section of Blinking, a sensory performance about the missing sight that occurs when we blink and the hallucinatory cinema on the back of the eyelid; and a short screening of dance on film, Melt. East Liberty Live: PRIVATE PLACESLike vogueing, J-setting was first noticed by the mainstream in a pop music video, this time Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It). In their newest work, Private Places, Philadelphia-based dance company idiosynCrazy Productions borrows the explosive, high-powered movement of J-setting, a highly stylized hip hop dance, characterized by sharp movements. Private Places is inspired by the intense emotional management demand placed upon flight attendants, who occupy a very theatrical place within the service industry. On June 26 and 28 at 7PM service industry employees join the artists at The Alloy Studios to share feedback, stories, and insights on what really happens behind-the-scenes. Sit back, share your two cents, and let us serve you - drink and food provided! At the end of the week idiosynCrazy Productions shares a work-in-progress excerpt of Private Places before the Pittsburgh premiere at KST on December 14 & 15. |
