The W.A.R. Against Hunger is a walk/bicycle ride fundraising event, in conjunction with a Health and Wellness Expo.

Art of Listening: Creating Oral Histories

Discover the craft of story-telling and use your skills to produce an oral history.

Brian Siewiorek, WYEP's Production Director, and Erika Beras, WESA's Behavioral Health Reporter, will offer an hour-long workshop on how to create an oral history. You'll learn about effectively interviewing a subject and how to draw out their stories.

As part of the class you'll get a chance to create an oral history in the WYEP studio in a one-on-one session with Brian or Erika. Come to "The Art of Listening: Creating Oral Histories" on Tuesday, June 4 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 for members and $60 for non-members.

The California Markets in Summer 2013

PGHretail has partnered with the Brighton Heights Citizen's Federation to begin a summer series caled, The California Markets, on California Ave. in Brighton Heights. Every second Saturday, PFHretail will host a variety of local food, drink, arts, crafts, and  community activities. June 8th is the BHCF's Art & Wine Walk, July 13th is Tom Friday's BBQ Cook-off, August 10th is Java House's Drumming Tournament & Parade of Puppets, and September 14th is the Timeless Beauty Pageant & Chubby's Eco-Fashion Show. 

Community activities are open to the public to participate with sign-up materials on the website & on their respective event page. 

September will have a pageant that invites children and their parents to collaboratively express what beauty is to them in 6 minutes. 

These activities are designed to engage every one and be of interest to a variety of demographics. The intention is to help bring local products and excitement to the community while exposing progressive concepts to all attendees.

Three Rivers Arts Festival - Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra led by Music Director Manfred Honeck presents a concert including movements from Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 as well as selections from George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess and Aaron Copland’s Rodeo. Also, enjoy featured solo performances by PSO musicians and Pittsburgh Opera Resident Artists Jasmine Muhammed and Kyle Oliver.

National Road Chainsaw Carving Festival

The 10th annual National Road Chainsaw Carving Festival, managed by the Confluence Lions Club, will host chainsaw carvers from all over the US and other countries. They will be carving, displaying and selling their carved items to the public.
