Los Lobos "Gates of Gold"
Although Louie Perez once referred to their music as “the soundtrack of the barrio” Los Lobos long ago moved beyond the boundaries of East Los Angeles. Their latest album, and first in five years, builds on what the band does best –exceptionally taut, versatile performances, and a blending of genres and cultures that make Los Lobos the quintessential American band. Perez and David Hidalgo’s songs incorporate blues, rock, Tex-Mex, country, jazz, and folk, while Cesar Rosas contributes both the hardest rocking and most ethnic material. There’s an existential edge to the album’s narrative, with plenty of soul searching and reminiscing.
