When I was growing up, my mom listened to Johnny Mathis, Dionne Warwick, Shirley Bassey, soundtracks to Westside Story and South Pacific, and all things Burt Bacharach. My dad would play Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, The Clancy Brothers, and all things Irish. I grew up watching Hee Haw, Soul Train and Solid Gold. I had K-Tel disco records. My cousin Beth Ann took me to see REO Speedwagon. My mom's friend Patty bought me my first B-52's album. In high school Matt Piso and I took a bus to see The Cult and The Divinyls at the Syria Mosque. I listened to WXXP. I bought New Order's Low Life on cassette at Eides. Yes, I was a Durannie but I love Mel Torme and AC/DC. I think Cole Porter and Stevie Wonder are America's best songwriters. Sarah Vaughan can bring me to tears. Everything But The Girl makes me happy. Brian Setzer rocks my world. I would marry Lyle Lovett. You see where I'm coming from. Music matters to me. So does WYEP. Are you a member?
