Staff Profile
Lee Ferraro
General Manager
Lee Ferraro was hired as general manager of WYEP in September of 1996. Lee began his career in radio in 1982 at WEFT-FM, a community oriented public radio station in Champaign, Illinois serving as a volunteer “airshifter” and production manager of the station’s program guide. He was later hired as the business manager. In the summer of 1987, Lee was hired to organize a national training conference for the National Federation of Community Broadcasters in Washington, D.C. After taking a break from radio and doing recreational therapy with the elderly in a residential treatment home, Lee returned to radio in 1989 to manage WYCE-FM in Grand Rapids, MI., a community oriented radio station similar in format to WYEP. Lee left WYCE-FM in the spring of 1995, moved to Seattle, WA, and accepted a program director position at the Northwest Folklife, helping to organize a four day music, dance and folk-art festival at the Seattle Center. In his spare time Lee reads books, goes to movies, works in his photographic darkroom and rides his bicycle and walks his dog.
